Glenbrook South School Newspaper Gets National Recognition
'The Oracle' took 4th place for best in show at the National Scholastic Press Association Fall Convention, and GBS grad Zoe Schancer's story won 2nd place for news story of the year.

The following press release was submitted by Glenbrook South:
GBS’s student newspaper, the Oracle, made headlines last weekend when its writers received national recognition at the National Scholastic Press Association’s Fall Convention in Boston.
With 5,500 students from around the nation in attendance, the Oracle was given 4th place for Best of Show in its newspaper category.

In addition, a story from GBS 2013 grad, Zoe Shancer, about the plight of the Sunset Village community in Glenview won 2nd Place in the Nation for News Story of the Year. Shancer’s writing, in combination with photographs by current senior Wyatt Richter and documentary work by 2013 grad Evan Richter and senior Gabbi Oppenheimer, won 1st Place in the Nation for Multimedia Feature Story of the Year.

The Journalism Education Association also conducts “write-off” competitions at the convention. Award recipients in this event included:
- Wyatt Richter - Superior in the “Photo Story” category
- Camille Park - Superior in the “Editorial Cartoon” category
- Julia Jacobs – Excellent in the “Headline Writing/ News Editing” category
- Carolyn Kelly – Honorable Mention in “News Writing” category
- Charlotte Kelly – Honorable Mention in “Editorial Writing” category
- Shea Anthony – Honorable Mention in “Review Writing” category
- Rachel Chmielinski – Honorable Mention in “Newspaper Design” category
