Glenview Environmentalist Judy Beck Dies At 77
Beck was a founding member of Save the Grove and served 32 years on the Glenview Park District board.

From Glenview Park District: It is with sad hearts that we acknowledge the passing of long-time Park Board Commissioner, community and environmental advocate, dear friend and mentor to many, Judy Beck. Judy’s accomplishments for Glenview are countless.
Judy dedicated her life to public service. In addition to her commitment to the parks, she worked with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Lake Michigan, the Village of Glenview’s Natural Resource Commission, Comprehensive Plan Committee, Environmental Review Committee and The League of Women Voters.
She was a member of the original “Frog & Fern” ladies who fought to save a small parcel of land from being sold to developers. The Grove has since grown to over 150 acres and been recognized as a national historic landmark. Decades ago, she was among activists who helped to save Wagner Farm. Judy achieved a lot while serving on the park board for 32 years, a time when the district saw unprecedented growth.

Her attentiveness to the Glenview Park District did not waiver, even after she retired from the board in 2011. It was common to see her at a board meeting, attending district events, and advocating for greatness at The Grove through her commitment to The Grove Heritage Association. A park was named in her honor in 2011. Beck Park is located at 735 Carriage Hill Drive.
Judy passed away on Tuesday, June 25 after a courageous battle with cancer and she will be greatly missed.
