Carl Robello died at 1:27 a.m. in the surgical intensive care unit at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, police said.

The crash occurred when Robello was heading east on Golf near Oleander when he lost control and struck a utility pole, said Morton Grove Police Commander Paul Yaras. The motorcycle continued on for a while before stopping.

Police charged him with DUI, and were investigating the crash. They had planned to wait for him to be released from the hospital before bringing any further charges, Yaras said.
