Glenview Police Stake Out Dunkin Rooftop for Special Olympics

Officers throughout the state will stake out Dunkin' Donuts rooftops Friday beginning at 5 a.m.

GLENVIEW, IL — For the 15th consecutive year, law enforcement officers from throughout the state will stake out Dunkin’ Donuts rooftops to support Special Olympics Illinois beginning at 5 a.m. Friday, May 19. Representatives from the Glenview Police Department will be on-site at the Dunkin’ Donuts located at 1750 Milwaukee Avenue, Glenview.

Officers hope to top last year’s donation total of $672,000 as they head to 274 Dunkin’ Donuts rooftops to raise awareness and donations for the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics Illinois. Locally, Glenview officers raised almost $3,000 in 2015 (the 2016 event was cancelled).

In honor of the Special Olympics athletes and police officers participating in the rooftop event, Dunkin’ Donuts will donate $15,000 to the Illinois Law Enforcement Torch Run. In addition, each guest who visits a Cop on a Rooftop location that day and makes a donation to the Torch Run will receive a free donut coupon. Guests donating at least $10 will receive a Law Enforcement Torch Run travel mug (while supplies last) and a coupon for free medium coffee. Other items, such as Torch Run T-shirts and raffle tickets, will be sold for various donation amounts. Additional activities will vary by Dunkin’ Donuts location.

“Special Olympics means we are all on the same team, no matter what,” said Special Olympics athlete Erin Compton, who will join police officers at Dunkin’ Donuts in Downers Grove and Westmont that day. “My favorite part of the Dunkin’ Donuts event is seeing the police officers on the roof. They are awesome.”

Westmont Police Department Deputy Chief Brian Gruen says the event “allows us to raise a great deal of awareness for the athletes of Special Olympics Illinois. It also shows the athletes that people truly care about them!”
