Letter to Village Requesting Additional Public Hearing Meeting

2660 Pfingsten public hearing falls on Glenview Public Schools Spring Break

In the spirit of transparency and in continued commitment of listening to residents, I am compelled to share the following letter, which has been sent to the Village of Glenview regarding the public hearing at 2660 Pfingsten, scheduled for Tues., March 23.

Dear Commissioner Bucklin:

I have been closely watching the public hearing related to 2660 Pfingsten, and have been impressed with the process and respect shown to all participants. You are likely aware that the upcoming continued public hearing falls on the Tuesday of Spring Break for Glenview public schools. This has been a very challenging year for many of our residents. Many have not been able to see their relatives. Being in Chicago, many have not been able to enjoy the outdoors. It has been a year filled with fear and frustration. A large number of residents of this area have been patiently awaiting their opportunity to contribute to the public hearing on 2660 Pfingsten. It has been over 2.5 years in the making. I also empathize with those who want to give their family some sense of normalcy by traveling for spring break.

As a candidate for the Board of Trustees for the Village of Glenview, I have received notes from over 15 residents, and heard from countless others, all of whom felt that having a public hearing during spring break week for this area is putting them into a difficult spot. Some are traveling to remote areas via car, and will not have access to the internet. Others will be out of the country with similar access issues. They did request that the Village consider swapping the agenda for the 30th with that of the 23rd, but this was not able to be done. I do applaud the effort. A request was made to GW Properties to consider agreeing to a continuance, which was denied. GW stated that a continuance would interfere with some of our private school spring breaks, which is incorrect. It is critical that we provide our residents with an opportunity to speak at a public hearing, particularly one that has garnered so much attention over the past two years.

With that in mind, I am requesting on behalf of the residents that the Plan Commission commit to another meeting, held after spring break ends for the Glenview schools, so that these residents can have the opportunity to contribute to this public hearing. Thank you.
