Mysterious Man Pretends To Fix Pipes, Burglarizes Home: Blotter

At two different residences, people approached homeowners saying they were there to fix pipes: Glenview Police Blotter.

HARASSMENT BY TELEPHONE

Steven M. Gray, 66, of the 3000 block of Knollwood Lane, Glenview, is accused of harassment by telephone, and was arrested March 4 in the 800 block of Waukegan Road. He was released on bond and assigned a court date of April 13 in Skokie.

DRIVING WITH A REVOKED DRIVER'S LICENSE

Quejan T. Lewis, 25, of the 13000 block of South St. Lawrence Street, Chicago, is accused of driving with a suspended/revoked driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, having only one red taillight, and was arrested in the 3300 block of East Lake Avenue. Lewis was released on bond and assigned a court date of April 8 in Skokie.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Ericka Battle, 23, of the 1900 block of Breckenridge Drive, Plainfield, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol concentration level over .08, driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding 26-34 miles per hour over the limit, operating an uninsured vehicle, and was arrested at 12:35 a.m. March 14 in the 1400 block of Milwaukee Avenue. She was released after posting a $1,000 bond and assigned a court date of April 27 in Skokie.

BURGLARY

Jessica Moreno, 31, of the 4500 block of Lilac Avenue, Glenview, is accused of burglary, criminal damage to property over $500, and was arrested at 6:10 a.m. March 14 after being accused of breaking into a business in the 1300 block of Patriot Boulevard. She was held for a bond hearing at the Skokie Courthouse on March 15.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

An employee of a business in the 2700 block of Old Willow Road reported at 3:43 p.m. March 9 a male broke a security camera on the building during the overnight hours. He was seen leaving the area in a white open bed truck.

THEFT BY DECEPTION

A Chester Drive resident called police at 5:16 p.m. March 10 to report contacting a loan company located in Salt Lake City, Utah for a personal loan. They approved him for the loan without the resident filling out a loan application. During one of the telephone calls, the loan officer convinced the resident to purchase gift cards and give the gift card numbers to the loan officer. Total reported loss is $5,000.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

A male and female reported at 10:50 a.m. March 11 having an altercation with each other in the parking lot of a motel in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

AGGRAVATED IDENTITY THEFT

A Waukegan Road resident called police at 7:20 p.m. March 11 to report receiving a telephone call from a female who identified herself as an employee of Amazon. The female said she needed access to the resident’s bank account so she could refund money for a fraudulent purchase. The resident gave her the information to access their bank account. After realizing it was a scam, the resident saw there were two transfer of funds from their account for $980 through Zelle.

THEFT

  • A citizen reported at 2:46 p.m. March 12 a theft of cellular telephone from Crowley Park, 749 Huber Lane, after it was left on a park bench.
  • A resident called police at 2:36 p.m. March 15 to report credit cards and money were stolen from a purse while they were shopping at a business in the 2100 block of Willow Road.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A resident called police at 7:14 p.m. March 12 to report someone damaged the tires to their bicycle while it was left unattended in front of a business in the 900 block of Harlem Avenue Total reported loss is $200.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee of a business in the 1300 block of Patriot Avenue called police at 8:16 p.m. March 13 to report two people stole an undetermined number of liquor bottles. They left the area in a vehicle.

BURGLARY FROM A MOTOR VEHICLE

An employee of a business reported at 8:21 a.m. March 15 numerous tools were stolen from one of their trucks while it was parked in the 2900 block of Patriot Boulevard. Total reported loss is $1,460.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

  • A resident in the 2000 block of Glenview Road reported at 3:53 p.m. March 15 finding a man inside his house. The man, who was wearing a yellow safety vest, said he was there to fix the pipes, that he would go get his boss, and walked outside. The man left in a red older model pickup truck westbound on Glenview Road. No reported loss at his time.
  • A resident in the 3700 block of Cindy Lane called police at 4:28 p.m. March 15 to report a man wearing a yellow safety vest knocked on the door saying he needed to repair the water line in backyard. The resident spoke to the man in the backyard for 10 minutes. The man was talking to someone on a cell phone when the man abruptly left in a red SUV. Later, the resident noticed someone had entered the house and stolen $1,500 and passports.

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT

A resident in the 2000 block of Avalon Court reported at 11:12 p.m. March 15 someone painted symbols and a derogatory word on their garage door and driveway. Total reported loss is $300.
