New Crosswalk Improves Pedestrian Safety At Wagner Farm
Two years in the making, the safety upgrade connects Historic Wagner Farm to its parking lot.
GLENVIEW, Ill., Aug. 23 - Construction of a new and improved crosswalk is underway at Historic Wagner Farm in time for the busy fall season when visitors enjoy our Pumpkin and Mum Sales, Bonfire & Barn Dance, Harvest Fest and A Family Halloween. The safety upgrade has been in the works for two years. After a permit was recently granted by the Cook County Department of Transportation, the farm went out for bids. Commissioners approved a bid for $80,427 from Alliance Contractors, Inc.
“We are very excited to complete the project and increase safety for our visitors,” said Jonathan Kuester, Wagner Farm Director.

The crosswalk connects the parking lot just off Wagner Road with Wagner Farm, 1510 Wagner Road. It’s a diamond-shaped pedestrian actuated crosswalk sign on a push-button style pole. Lights will flash for traffic moving in both directions on Wagner Road when pedestrians are in the crosswalk. There will also be new striping on the pavement and the area will become a no-passing zone. Construction began earlier this month and at this point, it’s about 90 percent complete with rumble strips on the roadway, a no-passing sign, pedestrian crosswalk sign and no parking sign. One of the last things to be installed will be the flashing lights.
