Driver Fell Asleep Behind the Wheel in Crash that Killed State Trooper
The truck driver involved in last month's Tri-State Tollway crash that killed Trooper James Sauter fell asleep at the wheel, Sun-Times reported.

The driver involved the Interstate crash in March that killed an Illinois State Police trooper fell asleep behind the wheel before the truck he was driving veered out of its lane, Glenview Announcement reported.
Court records show a citation of improper lane usage given to the driver was dismissed April 15 and he has not been charged with a crime relating to the crash; State Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said there is an ongoing death investigation and they will probably seek higher charges, Glenview Announcement reported.
A semi-truck traveling southbound on I-294 struck a patrol car near Willow Road just after 11:30 p.m. on March 28. .

Sauter is survived by his wife, Elizabeth. He has been with the ISP since June 29, 2008. Hundreds of Law enforcement from across the state and country attended his funeral.
