The Musica Lumina 2017-18 concert series will conclude Sunday, June 3, at 3 p.m. at St. John Brebeuf Church, 8307 N. Harlem, Niles. Requiems by Gabriel Faure and Bob Chilcott will be presented by the North Shore Choral Society as the final concert of the season featuring soloists who are all emerging local artists including Kateri Gormley, soprano; Ryan Townsend Strand, tenor; and Kyle Sackett, baritone.
While many people already know and love Gabriel Faure’s stunning Requiem, they may not have heard of Bob Chilcott’s Requiem, according to North Shore Choral Society’s Music Director, Julia Davis. “There are lots of parallels between the two, including seven movements, lush orchestration, and beautiful melodies,” she said adding that Bob Chilcott sang the soprano solo—at the age of 12—in a popular recording of Faure’s Requiem. “You can clearly hear how Faure’s work influenced Chilcott,” she concluded.
