West Nile Virus Found in All North Shore Mosquito Abatement District Communities

With a positive test reported in Northfield this week, the West Nile virus has come up in all communities served by the North Shore Mosquito Abatement District.

The batch collected from a NSMAD trap in Northfield on August 14 tested positive in the district’s lab on August 18.

This year, the highest number of positive batches in the district’s area has come in Skokie, with 16 reported positive batches out of 73 tested. Both Evanston and Glenview/Golf have seen 13 batches of mosquitoes test positive for the virus this summer. In Evanston, 116 total batches have been tested and 107 in Glenview/Golf.

Outside of Northfield, which has only seen the one positive result, all other municipalities covered by the District have seen at least three.

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District covers Evanston, Glencoe, Glenview/Golf, Kenilworth, Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Niles, Northbrook, Northfield, Skokie, Wilmette and Winnetka.

In all, 95 positive results have come from 817 batches throughout the region.
