1 Critically Injured After Car Collides With Pedestrian

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating whether the driver was impaired or distracted during the crash Thursday in Ingleside.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A 53-year-old Ingleside man struck by a car while walking along a shoulder on Route 59 Thursday evening has been critically injured, authorities said.

The collision occurred at about 6:40 p.m. when a black Chrysler 300 heading east on Route 59 near Stanton Point Road drove onto the southern shoulder and hit the man, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office. There are no sidewalks along the area of Route 59 where the man was walking, police said.

He was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville in critical condition, according to authorities.

Investigators are working to determine if impairment or a distraction caused the driver of the Chrysler, a 39-year-old Ingleside man, to crash. He was not injured.
