Award-winning Preschool holds Jamboree to Celebrate Books

Month-long Book Drive on Track to Collect 25,000 Children Books

The Goddard School in Third Lake held a school-wide Bookworm Jamboree today in support of their month-long book drive in partnership with Bernie’s Book Bank. The 20 Chicago-land Goddard Schools have a goal of collecting 25,000 books by February 15, 2019. Over the last 5 years, The Goddard Schools have collected and distributed close to 200,000 books to children-at-risk in Illinois, birth through 12 years.

The Jamboree gathered over 200 children, staff, along with Cat in the Hat for a sing-a-long, story-telling by students, and book reading. Children were encouraged to bring books to donate as part of the celebration.

“We had 2 goals for the event,” stated David Raye, Owner, “first was to celebrate our love of books, and second to share those books with children that do not have them. In that we succeeded and had lots of fun doing so.”

Anthony “Spice” Adams, retired Chicago Bear and TV personality, read the Dr. Seuss book Hop On Pop, which was his personal favorite as he was growing up, recalling his special time with his Grandfather. He had a grand entrance as the children marched to the Chicago Bear fight song.

“As an acknowledged leader in early childhood education, The Goddard School is dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing place where children can learn, explore and discover their interests,” said David. “For the last 15 years, we have hired, trained and retained a wonderful staff of educators that have allowed us to excel in the area of curriculum, leading to national recognition.”
