Award-winning Preschool S.T.E.A.M.s into 2019

The Goddard School located in Third Lake, IL opened in 2004 and has won numerous awards during the past 15 years. David and Donna Raye introduced the Goddard School to Central Lake County because they believed there was a lack of high-quality schools to prepare children for the 21st century.

The nation’s economy is moving toward technologically based industries, creating a demand for future workers to be proficient in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Consequently, this January, The Raye’s will be opening a new S.T.E.A.M. Lab, which will focus on these major subjects, in addition to art.

According to Mr. Raye, “It has been proven that the early childhood years are the most critical regarding neurological development. Young children successfully take in information via active exploration. The ability to observe, interact, discover and explore is inherent in their development. Therefore, we can concur that it is during these critical years that STEAM curricula should commence, setting children on an optimal pathway that cultivates a love of scientific inquiry”.

The STEAM Lab encompasses many different components that introduce a variety of STEAM concepts. Teachers will have weekly scheduled times in which they can bring small groups of children to explore the lab. In addition, classrooms will be able to check out items to study in more depth. Some of the highlighted elements in the lab are a robot that teaches coding, a powered microscope, light boards, and a Wi-Fi wind and weather station.

David and Donna Raye recently received the Circle of Excellence for Education Award by Goddard Systems, Inc.
