The flood warning is in effect through 9:30 p.m.

LAKE COUNTY, IL – A flood warning has been issued for Lake and McHenry counties through 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. Thunderstorms brought heavy rain and at 7:30 p.m., one to 2.5 inches of rain had already fallen over parts of far northern Illinois and along and north of Interstate 90.
Locations that are expected to experience flooding include: Waukegan, Arlington Heights, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Northbrook, North Chicago, Gurnee, Mundelein, Algonquin, Highland Park, McHenry, Belvidere, Vernon Hills, Woodstock, Zion, Loves Park, Grayslake, Libertyville and Lake Zurich.
Drivers are reminded to turn around when they encounter flooded roads and not to drive through. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
