Flood Warning Issued For McHenry, Lake, Kane Counties
The warning will remain in effect through 9:45 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

A flood warning has been issued for urban areas and small streams in several counties in northeastern Illinois through 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service has included McHenry, Lake, Kane, northwestern Cook, northwestern Will and DeKalb counties as part of the warning area. At 3:37 p.m., trained weather spotters reported heavy rain along and to the east of Interstate 39 and across the far west and north suburbs of Chicago due to thunderstorms.
At that point, up two inches of rain had already fallen. Minor flooding had been reported in Elgin. An additional two inches of rainfall is expected in the warned area.
Other locations expected to experience flooding include Aurora, Joliet, Naperville, Elgin, Waukegan, Arlington Heights, Schaumburg, Bolingbrook, Palatine, Mount Prospect, Wheaton, Hoffman Estates, Downers Grove, Lombard, Buffalo Grove, Carol Stream, Romeoville, Plainfield, Carpentersville and Wheeling.

Area residents are reminded to not drive into a flooded roadway. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.
