Garbage-Filled Semi Overturns, Closes Road: Police

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A portion of Route 120 remained closed Monday afternoon after a semi truck overturned, spilling garbage onto the roadway earlier in the day, authorities said. The semi was headed west on Route 120 near Fish Lake Road in Volo around 9:45 a.m. when the vehicle went through a red light after being unable to stop, Lake Co. Sheriff Sgt. Christopher Covelli said in an e-mail response.

The semi collided with a vehicle, which was turning from southbound Fish Lake Road onto westbound Route 120.

The truck overturned but continued traveling about 200 feet west of the intersection and spilled a large load of garbage, according to Covelli. The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were taken to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after sustaining minor injuries.

The semi truck driver was not injured.

As of 2:25 p.m., the roadway remained closed between Fish Lake Road and Route 6o, Covelli said.
