How do you teach a child to BEHAVE?
Behavior Bear is available through our books, visits and now on Tees and Tanks. What a great visual to remind others to simply, BEHAVE. Think about how you 'expect' your children to behave? If you say to them when they are acting out of character, BEHAVE, what does this mean? Here are a few TIPS to teach behavior:1. Tell your child what you expect from them as far as good behavior goes. You want them to be good listeners, to follow the rules at home and at school and then model this so they see it through you.2. Read stories about what good behavior means with and to your children.3. Make a chart for home or school to reinforce this trait with your children.4. Let them draw and write pictures of what good behavior is to them.5. Compliment them when they are of good behavior, let them know you are proud of their character. When a child internalized the good feeling of being of good behavior, they are more likely to continue with good behavior.Remember, you need to explain the language you use. A child does not understand if you just tell them. One of my favorite quotes is: "Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." Benjamin Franklin
