Horror Flicks, Family Fun Days And More At Marcus Theatres

Marcus Theatres locations are showing new festive releases, horror classics and are hosting family fun days for all to enjoy.

GURNEE, IL — Marcus Theatres is offerding some spooky, spectacular Halloween-themed fun to help ghosts and goblins of all ages get into the spirit of the season. According to a release from Marcus Theatres, the cinema locations are showing new festive releases, horror classics and family fun days for all to enjoy.

Just in time for Halloween, Hollywood is rolling out two new blockbusters that "promise plenty of thrills, chills and even a laugh or two," according to Marcus Theatres. They are:

  • “Zombieland: Double Tap:” (Now playing) — According to the release, this movie centers on zombie slayers facing off "against evolved zombies, fellow survivors and the growing pains of their snarky makeshift family."
  • "Countdown:”(Out on Oct. 24) — "A nurse downloads an app that claims to predict the moment a person will die. With the clock ticking, she must find a way to save her life before time runs out."

Marcus Cinemas invites all to come out for $5 Movie Tuesdays, Student Thursdays — featuring $6 movies for students of all ages — and school faculty and Young at Heart Fridays — featuring $6 movies for seniors before 5:30 p.m., according to the release.

Retro horror fans can head to participating theatres, including the Gurnee Mills location, for classic thrills from “Halloween” and “Beetlejuice.” Horror Classics:

  • Oct. 24 through 26 — “Halloween” (1978): "Fifteen years after murdering his sister on Halloween night in 1963, Michael Myers escapes from a mental hospital and returns to the small town of Haddonfield, Illinois, to kill again."
  • October 27, 28 and 30 — “Beetlejuice” (1988): "The spirits of a deceased couple are harassed by an unbearable family that has moved into their home, and hire a malicious spirit to drive them out."

But that's not all the festive fun this season at Marcus Cinemas:

Bring out the whole family to get creepy and kooky at the Addams Family Spooktacular Family Fun Days taking place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27. According to the release, guests can come as they please to enjoy a variety of free crafts, including jack-o-lantern paper bags and ghost pops, activities and snacks. Costumes are welcome, however no masks or weapons are allowed, Marcus Theatres added.

Before or after the activities, attendees are encouraged to stay and see “The Addams Family,” an animated version of Charles Addams’ classic series of cartoons. (Rated PG; film admission sold separately).
