How Much Snow Will Grayslake Get Tuesday?

A freeze watch has been issued for Lake County starting Tuesday night and continuing into Wednesday morning.

GRAYSLAKE, IL — A late season snow system is expected to sweep the Chicago area on Tuesday, but it looks like Grayslake ill not be among the towns the hardest hit.

The snow, which will be mixed with rain at times, will spread across the area Tuesday morning and continue into the early evening. In Grayslake, snow, as well as snow mixed with rain, is most likely to fall between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. There is also a chance for snow before 8 p.m. on Tuesday and on Wednesday.

New snow accumulation of less than a half-inch is possible for Grayslake on Tuesday with accumulations over two inches possible elsewhere, according to the National Weather Service - Chicago.

The heaviest snowfall is expected to hit late on Tuesday afternoon and early evening. Slush could briefly affect roads primarily east of I-55, according to the National Weather Service.

But otherwise, minimal travel impacts are expected.

After the snow and slush comes the cold. A freeze watch has been issued from 9 p.m. Tuesday until 9 a.m. Wednesday for Lake County as well as the Chicago area. Temperatures in the upper 20s are possible

Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing, according to the National Weather Service.

Residents are urged to take steps to plants from the cold. Exposed outdoor water pipes and hoses should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday: Snow likely, possibly mixed with rain, mainly between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Cloudy, with a high near 39. North wind around 5 mph becoming east northeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tuesday Night: A chance of rain and snow before 8 p.m., then a chance of snow. Areas of frost after 1 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 29. East wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 40%.

Wednesday: A slight chance of snow showers before 10 a.m., then a slight chance of rain showers. Areas of frost before 8 a.m. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 44. Northwest wind around 5 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Wednesday Night: A slight chance of rain showers before 10 p.m., then a slight chance of snow showers between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 30. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday: Sunny, with a high near 56.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 39.

Friday: A chance of showers after 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 57.

Friday Night: A chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 41.

Saturday: A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 57.

Saturday Night: A slight chance of showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 37.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 59.
