Saint Gilbert 8th Grade Girls Volleyball Ends Year On High Note
Saint Gilbert Catholic School offers athletic opportunities.

Eighth Grade is a bittersweet moment for students and parents at Saint Gilbert School because it is the culmination of a journey that begins in kindergarten, and ends with that little person leaving as a young adult. The journey is all the more sweet as SGS is a K-8 school, so that most of the girls have been together since the first day of kindergarten, meaning that, for 9 years, this girls have been nearly sisters.
It is no different with athletics and coaching. The Saint Gilbert School athletics program has a similar development arc, beginning in 5th Grade, when they first compete for their school. Then, over 4 seasons, they become more than friends but transform into accomplished athletes.
Coach Roesler, had this to say about her tenure as the Girls Volleyball Coach: “I have been fortunate to have been able to coach this team since 5th grade. They have developed from beginners to competitive volleyball players. This year the girls really jelled as players but also as friends. Our season culminated with an exciting 8th grade night against a competitive team. They fought hard to not only win the game but to clinch 1st place in the Northern Illinois Catholic Conference!”

In fact, Coach Roesler follows in a long tradition of SGS Volleyball excellence, with the 8th Grade Girl’s Volleyball teams winning their Conference and/or the Conference Champion Tournament over last several years.
This is all the more remarkable as SGS coaches are all parent-volunteers who guide their children and their friends through practices, drills as well as coaching competitive matches for the school.

The girls eventually finished the year 13-2, earning them first place in the Northern Illinois Catholic Conference and winning the highly competitive Johnsburg Tournament. At the season-end tourney, the team placed third.
Thanks to winning their conference, they will be honored with a banner that will be hung in the SGS gym so memorializing this special time and achievement is the School’s history.
