For the first time ever, Chicago area residents will get to drive through the theme park and enjoy the holiday lights from their cars.

GURNEE, IL — For the first time ever, Six Flags Great America is offering a drive-thru option for its Holiday in the Park event. On select days in December and January, residents who nab tickets to the event can enjoy the holiday lights, seasonal music and special holiday characters from the comfort and warmth of their cars.
“We are proud to debut another way for our guests to celebrate the holidays with this unique, magical offering,” said Six Flags Great America President Hank Salemi. “We have successfully transformed the traditional operation of our beloved Holiday in the Park into a walk-through and now a new, drive-thru experience. Plus, theme park enthusiasts won’t want to miss this extremely rare opportunity to drive around inside the park,” he added.

In addition, Holiday in the Park Lights, the walk-thru option, will continue on weekends and select weekdays through the end of December. The event features dazzling lights, crackling fire pits, and delicious holiday treats. The rides at Six Flags will not be operating due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19.
For those planning to attend the drive-thru event, masks are required when car windows are down and those stopping out are asked not to smoke, litter, stop or exit their vehicles. In addition, only cars, SUVs, vans, and pick-up trucks are permitted, and busses, RVs, commercial vehicles, dually pick-up trucks, trailers, or motorcycles will not be allowed.
A maximum speed of 3 mph, and maintaining a safe distance between cars, will be strictly enforced, according to the news release.
As part of Six Flags’ safety procedures, all employees are required to wear masks and are temperature-checked and health-screened each day. Gloves are worn as appropriate, per guidelines, and Six Flags encourages guests to plan before they head out for restroom breaks, gasoline, and food.
