Six Flags Will Require Guest Reservations Once Parks Reopen

Six Flags announced guests will be required to make a reservation to visit the parks as states plan to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic.

GURNEE, IL — Six Flags parks across the U.S. including Great America in Gurnee will require guests to make reservations before heading to the parks as part of a new system being implemented for guest and staff member safety during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. According to a news release, Six Flags is introducing the new reservation system as they set capacity limits for each park to meet national, regional and expert social distancing guidelines

"Without a reservation system, there is the risk that more guests will show up than we are able to accommodate," Six Flags said in the news release. "While specific caps on attendance have not been established or announced, the safety and well-being of our guests and team members is our top priority and we want to provide adequate space to maintain a safe distance from other guests."

However, Six Flags isn't accepting reservations just yet, but said on the website that they'll turn on the reservation system shortly before each park resumes operations.

Guests will be required to select the date and time they want to visit, based on availability. Six Flags added that on the day of their visit, guests will only be allowed to enter during their reserved time period.

"The reservation system also allows us to limit the number of guests at the front gate at any given time (thereby eliminating overcrowding)," Six Flags said, in the news release.

The reservation process "is quick, easy, and will provide a safer, more fun experience for everyone," Six Flags added, and is being facilitated for the time being to avoid guest disappointment at the front gate and to implement limited occupancy scenarios.

Six Flags Great America in Gurnee announced last month it pushed back its opening date due to concerns over the spread of the coronavirus in the Chicago area, park officials said. The park plans to open by mid-May or "as soon as possible thereafter." Park officials plan to closely monitor the coronavirus situation at the federal, state and local level. Those who have 2020 season passes will be able to extend their use of that pass for the number of operating days the park is temporarily closed. Six Flag Great America members will receive an additional month for each month that the park is closed, according to the update from park officials. They will also receive a "free membership level upgrade for the rest of the 2020 season."
