Snow, Rain And Flooding In Lake County Forecast: NWS

Areas around the Fox and Des Plaines rivers are under flood warnings or advisories, in addition to a Hazardous Weather Outlook, NWS reports.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for the Fox River near New Munster, affecting Lake County and parts of Wisconsin in Kenosha County. According to NWS, the river rose to 11.2 feet at 10 a.m. Monday, .2 over flood stage. The river will continue rising to near 11.4 feet by early Tuesday afternoon, NWS reported.

The river will fall below flood stage early Thursday afternoon, according to NWS.

At 12.1 feet, water reaches up to the first floor levels of some area homes.

A Flood Advisory continues until Thursday afternoon for the Des Plaines River near Russell, or from the Illinois/Wisconsin state line — downstream to US-41 in Gurnee, NWS added.

The river's stage was 6.4 feet at 9:30 a.m. Monday, just under the "action stage" at 6.5 feet. The forecast notes the river is expected to rise to around 6.8 feet by Tuesday morning, .2 under the 7-foot flood stage, during which water can flow into surrounding farm and marshland near the river, according to NWS.

NWS and local authorities remind motorists to turn around and find an alternate route if you encounter a flooded roadway.

These alerts are part of a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by NWS for several Illinois counties including Lake, McHenry, Kane, Cook, Will and more. Expected weather hazards are limited risks of snow and fog, as rain is expected to transition to a rain/snow mix, then snow for a brief period, early Tuesday morning (overnight) from (and northwest of) Dixon to Woodstock, according to NWS. Light snow accumulations under one inch are possible, mainly on grassy surfaces, NWS said.
