In an interview Thursday, Julie Beckert, a spokeswoman with ProMedica, ManorCare's parent organization, counted 79 cases and five deaths. She acknowledged the other cases in the state's number could be presumed under the state's definition.
One of the reasons for the jump in cases, she said, was that the facility was testing more residents.

"The more you test, the more your cases go up," Beckert said in the interview. "There are a lot of people who are asymptomatic, and they are positive."
ProMedica likes to test residents, she said, so it knows how to deal with the spread of the virus.
According to the Medicare website, ManorCare is rated as average overall. It is rated as above average in staffing and below average in both health inspections and quality measures.
