In an email to Patch, Clarendon Hills Village Manager Zach Creer said the fire truck was at Jewel while an on-duty crew was grocery shopping for the shift.

"That is common practice for fire departments," Creer said.

He said the village was waiting on official quotes, but the damage is believed to be less than $5,000.

The Clarendon Hills police report indicated that no citations were issued. The crash occurred on private property.
