$9K In Cash Stolen From Hinsdale Home: Cops
Village police could find no signs of forced entry.
HINSDALE, IL — A portable safe containing $9,000 was stolen Sunday from an apartment in the 5500 block of South Madison Street, Hinsdale police said.
The victim believed the suspect may be a former acquaintance, police said. Police said they could find no signs of forced entry to the apartment. The victim discovered an unlocked bedroom window had been opened. The theft occurred between 10:50 a.m. and 2:25 p.m., police said. The case is pending.

- Someone intercepted a $495 check and altered the payee information between Dec. 27, 2019 and Jan. 1, 2021. The crime was reported Thursday. The victim is in the 10 block of South Garfield.
- Carolyn Ann Gerard, 47, of West Chicago, was arrested about 2 a.m. Thursday at Ogden Avenue and Route 83 on charges of DUI and improper lane use. She refused testing to determine her blood-alcohol content. She was released and given a date to appear in court.
- A suspect opened a utility account in Houston using the identity of a resident in the 100 block of East Fifth Street. The victim received a $408 bill as a result. The crime was reported Thursday.
- A book box, also known as a "little free library," was damaged overnight Saturday in a front yard in the 700 block of South Vine Street. Such a box is for people to take or donate books.
