After 2 Weeks of No DUIs, Hinsdale Police Arrest 3 Drunk Drivers
Hinsdale police successfully increased patrols throughout the holiday season.
Although Hinsdale police successfully increased patrols during the holiday season to keep drunk drivers off the streets, their December win was followed by three reported DUIs so far this year.
From Dec. 16 of last year through Jan. 1 of 2017, the Hinsdale Police Department was strict about enforcing the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, according to a release from police officials. As a result, no drunk drivers were cited within that time frame.
Fifteen citations were still issued for speeding during those two weeks, as well as two citations for no valid driver’s license and seven citations for other violations to the Illinois Vehicle Code. One person was arrested for an outstanding warrant.

“To help Illinois drive zero fatalities to reality, we warned partygoers to never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs or face the consequences if they did,” Police Chief Kevin Simpson said in the release.
According to police reports from the first ten days of the new year, three motorists have been cited in Hinsdale for drunk driving.

The first citation of 2017 came around 12:42 a.m. Jan. 4, according to reports. Chicago resident Jennifer Russell, 29, was stopped for speeding in the 100 block of East 55th Street and given a breathalyzer test that determined her blood alcohol level was over the legal driving limit. She was charged and released with a court date.
Allan Loder, 59, of West Chicago, hit a car at a stop sign around 8 p.m. Jan. 8 and fled the scene of the accident. When Hinsdale police found him parked on the road at 2nd and Monroe Streets, they asked him to consent to a breathalyzer test, which he did. Police determined Loder had been driving drunk and charged him with a DUI, driving without a valid license, speeding and leaving the scene of an accident.
The next day, Ivan Kleban, 27, was stopped for speeding in the 400 block of East Ogden Avenue and subsequently arrested for driving drunk. Kleban is from La Grange.
“Too often, drivers get wrapped up in the excitement of the holidays and make the foolish decision to drive after drinking," Simpson said. "But no one should ever drive impaired by alcohol or drugs. Always hand the keys to a sober driver or face the consequences.”
