Area Towns Boast High Median Incomes

Hinsdale, Western Springs and Burr Ridge are among highest. Elmhurst and La Grange are up there. Darien is behind, but far ahead of state.

HINSDALE, IL — Hinsdale, Western Springs and Burr Ridge far exceed the median household incomes of other suburbs, most of which are wealthy. Elmhurst and La Grange are in the upper echelon. Darien is lower than many towns in the area, but still much higher than the state's median household income.

The U.S. Census collects the information on median household income. The latest figures are from 2018. In Illinois, the median household income is $63,575, a bit higher than the national number, $60,298. Chicago's is $55,198.
