Art of Illinois Opens at Gallery Seven

Local Artist Exhibits

-Lockport Gallery Seven in Lockport opened its exhibit Art of Illinois: A Bicentennial Celebrationto a “bursting at the seams” crowd on Saturday, October 6th. Over 60 artists from around the state are part of this exciting exhibit, which is on both the second and third floors of the Gaylord Building.

Presenting the awards and a certificate of Recognition from the Illinois State Senate was Senator Pat McGuire. Anne Zick is exhibiting her work Way, Way, Way Out of My Box.

“Being a traditional quilter, Way, Way, Way Out Of My Box is really “WAY, WAY, WAY OUT OF MY BOX!!!” My favorite quilting method for the past 30+ years is English Paper Piecing, an old 18th century totally hand-pieced quilting process. To explore my artistic possibilities and move in a new direction, I took two “Intuitive Color and Design” classes from Jean Wells Keenan in Sisters, Oregon. This quilt begins with the English Paper Pieces surrounding the box, then to my surprise, many creative ideas began popping out. In the end, as you can see, I now have a quilt of the more trendy modern style. “
