D-86 Leader 'Incredibly Proud' Of Superintendent

President Kevin Camden's praise contrasts with his predecessor's criticism of the superintendent.

HINSDALE, IL — The school board president for Hinsdale High School District 86 last week praised Superintendent Tammy Prentiss and the administration, among others, for the district's handling of the pandemic. It was a contrast to his predecessor's recent criticism of Prentiss.

"I'm incredibly proud of the administration and the superintendent in particular with respect with how we navigated COVID," President Kevin Camden said at last Thursday's board meeting.

While some district families may disagree, Camden said, "there are few districts, if any, in DuPage County that have performed as well as we did. We ended the school year in the classroom. We started the 2021 school year in the classroom. Among our peers, we have none that did that. That's a testament to our teachers, to the work the administration has done and to our administrators."

Camden, who lost his bid for re-election April 6, also had kind words for the district in general.

"District 86, irrespective of where we might be presently, has a bright future," Camden said. "The fact that we have parents that come out on a regular basis to both challenge and support the board is significant. As long as we can maintain that, we can weather storms."

Shortly after the election, Nancy Pollak, Camden's predecessor who resigned suddenly last June, criticized the superintendent as "the problem" in the district. She supported Camden and other incumbents in their re-election campaigns.

In response to Pollak, board member Keith Chval, who decided against running for another term, praised the superintendent for her work.

The new board majority takes office next Monday.
