Here's What D-86 Families Want On In-Person Learning
Thousands of Central and South families make their wishes known, district says.
HINSDALE, IL — About 30 percent of families in Hinsdale High School District 86 want to keep their students remote for the rest of the school year, according to a recent district survey.
Meanwhile, 45 percent chose to keep their students in the current hybrid model, which includes two days of in-person learning a week. And 25 percent want to move their students to hybrid. Nearly 3,300 families took part in the survey.
The district recently conducted the survey to give families one final opportunity to choose the model of learning they want for their children. Students have been switching between remote and hybrid, leaving hundreds of seats empty at both Central and South. Having families commit allows the district to possibly expand to four days of in-person learning for those students who want it, officials said.

According to the survey, 44 percent of families asked that their students be considered for four days a week of in-person learning, while 26 percent said they would continue with two days a week.
The district promised to provide school-specific data at Thursday's school board meeting.

"The soonest we anticipate being able to increase the number of students who are in school four days per week is after spring break," the district said in a statement. "We will keep all families with students in our hybrid model updated on the status of this process."
