Here's Why D-86 Cheer Teams Were Treated Differently
One team was allowed to cheer from the sidelines; the other was not.
HINSDALE, IL — The Hinsdale High School District 86 board was asked last week why pandemic restrictions affected cheerleaders at Hinsdale South and Central differently.
At one point, South's cheerleaders were allowed to cheer from the sidelines, while Central's were barred from doing so. The issue was raised during Thursday's school board meeting.
Patch asked District 86 about the difference in treatment of the two schools' cheerleaders.

In response, school spokesman Chris Jasculca said Central's cheerleading team has been practicing since November and has taken part in all games during that time.
He said the issue raised during the board meeting was about why South cheerleaders were able to cheer from the sidelines for two football games, while Central's only performed during halftime.

"This was a product of our two athletic directors having a different interpretation of the mitigation guidelines for cheering at outdoor events," Jasculca said in an email. "We have clarified/confirmed what the guidelines are for this sport, and will ensure that they are being administered consistently across the district."
