High School Student is Caught With Weed at School, Thieves Steal Church Benches: Hinsdale Police Blotter

The following items were taken from the Hinsdale police blotter. An arrest doesn't constitute a finding of guilt.
Drugs
- A 17-year-old minor was charged for having marijuana on him at school Dec. 8. He was reported for having a green leafy substance that a police field test determined was pot, was cited for the incident and was released to appear in court. The minor was at Hinsdale Central High School and was caught early in the day, around 8 a.m.
- Another underage young man, 15, was a passenger in a car that was stopped for speeding when police noticed he had marijuana with him. While the driver was cited for speeding and driving with a suspended license, the minor was charged with drug possession.
Battery

- Another high school student got in trouble last week when he insulted another student at Hinsdale Central High School and was subsequently charged with battery and referred to a juvenile officer. The 17-year-old student, police said, had made contact of an insulting or provoking nature. The incident occurred Nov. 4 but wasn’t reported until Dec. 7.
Theft
- Two wooden benches, each valued at $900, were stolen from the parking lot of Hinsdale Methodist Church sometime between 6 a.m. Dec. 6 and 8:36 a.m. Dec. 9. The case is still being investigated by police.
Identity theft

- A Hinsdale resident living on the 400 block of North Grant Street reported that sometime between Nov. 14 and Dec. 6, someone used the resident’s identity to request fraudulent bank wire transfers.
- A woman reported Dec. 6 that between Nov. 15 and Nov. 17, someone opened a credit card under her name and made four purchases totaling $106.
Underage drinking
- Police were called around 10:53 p.m. Dec. 3 for a noise complaint and found two 16-year-old boys drinking alcohol in the alley between Madison Street and 4th Street. The pair were charged and released to their parents.
