Hinsdale Jewelry Stores Victims of Fraud: Cops
The suspect was successful with one of the shops, police say.
HINSDALE, IL — A person trying to buy a bracelet through fraud contacted two Hinsdale jewelry stores last week, police said. He was successful with one of them.
About 4 p.m. May 25, the man tried to buy a bracelet worth $6,436 using a credit card over the phone at Caffray Jewelers, 14 Grant Square, according to a police report. He requested the jewelry be released to a friend picking it up for him, police said. The business contacted the cardholder and discovered the credit card use was unauthorized. The business received this information before the jewelry was released.
About 1½ hours later, a man called Karat Jewelry Group, 9 E. First St., to buy a bracelet worth $7,020 using a credit card over the phone. The suspect told the employee that his friend would be in to pick up the item for him, police said. A man did come by to pick up the bracelet, according to a police report. The business later discovered the transaction was unauthorized.

The man picking up the bracelet was described as black and wearing a dark baseball hat, a blue mask, a white shirt, white shorts and yellow flip-flops.
The cases are pending, police said.
