Hinsdale Kitchen Remodel the Envy of Professional Designers
This designer took "traditional" to a completely new level.
HINSDALE, IL — Designer Kathryn O'Donovan is winning big this season with her renovation of a Hinsdale kitchen.
O'Donovan, who works with Normandy Remodeling, just took home a Gold Master Design Award from Qualified Remodeler Magazine. This isn't her first rodeo, though — she was also honored with a 2016 Crystal Design Award and was featured on the cover of Kitchen, Bath & Design News Magazine for the same design.
O'Donovan was born and raised in Ireland, but came to Chicago in 1995 to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts at the International Academy, according to a release from Normandy Remodeling. Her knack for design has gotten her gigs working with celebrity designers on their projects and taking her work across the world, from Hawaii to Austria.

Though her qualifications are lengthy, O'Donovan's niche was clear: kitchens and bathrooms.
"It's an honor to have this kitchen be so well-received by the design industry," O'Donovan said in the release, talking about her most recent award. "A lot of thought went into the functionality and style of this space."

The Master Design Awards are an annual event stretching back 38 years now. The idea of the competition is to laud spaces that were both design-savvy, thoughtful and functional.
O'Donovan said she stuck with the traditional theme of the house for her kitchen remodel.
"As the rest of the home leaned toward traditional, we opted traditional elements including applied moulding and elegant, mullion glass doors," she said. "A large island with seating also made the space more appropriate for entertaining and practical for cooking."
A panel of six judges selected O'Donovan's design for its functional floor plan, classic white cabinets and eye-catching, mirrored refrigerator armoire, according to the release.
