Hinsdale Teachers Revamp Civics, Democracy Lessons in Accordance With New State Law

The new law also requires students to engage in community work.

In a turbulent political climate, Hinsdale District 86 high school teachers are reworking American politics and AP government classes to include more civics training and education about the democratic process.

New state law requires that students across Illinois must take two years of social studies throughout their high school careers, including one semester of civics, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Teachers worked to make those changes last summer, Billson Rasavongxay, the chairman of the Hinsdale Central High School social studies department, told the Tribune. Read the full report here.
