Hinsdale Trustee Steps Down After 7 Years

Robert Saigh is 70 and moving to Arizona.

Robert Saigh, a Hinsdale Village Trustee for seven years, announced Tuesday he’d be stepping down from his position on the board.

Saigh, 70, said he and his wife’s house on Lincoln St. has finally been sold and they’ll be moving to Arizona by the end of November, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Saigh was elected to the Village Board in 2009, after he served on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the village. He was known as a very vocal, though kind, board member.

“He beats the drum for historic preservation more than any other trustee,” Village President Thomas Cauley, Jr., told the Tribune.

In 1999 and 2000, Saigh and others worked to preserve Immanuel Hall and the Hinsdale Theater. The village bought Immanuel Hall, a historic church at 302 S. Grant St., in 1999 and donated it to the Hinsdale Historical Society.

Since Saigh is leaving the board in between regular terms, Cauley said he was planning on appointing someone to fill Saigh’s seat until his term expires in April of 2017.

Saigh has lived in Hinsdale for 23 years in total. He said he sticks by the fact that it’s a great place to live.

"People generally appreciate what they have here," he said. "I had a full and rewarding experience here."
