Hit-and-Run, DUIs, Thousands of Dollars Lost in Fraud Cases: Hinsdale Police Blotter

The following items were taken from the weekly Hinsdale police blotter.
Deception
- A Hinsdale resident met someone he knew at the 935 N. York Rd. McDonald’s to sell his laptop Dec. 18, but later found that he’d been conned out of almost $2K. The man agreed to sell his laptop for $1,700, and the buyer paid the victim through an online service. The following day, the resident told police he was notified that the payment hadn’t gone through and was deemed fraudulent.

- When someone called in a report of possible drug activity in a parked car around midnight Dec. 18, Hinsdale police responded to the scene and found a suspect, who cops haven’t named in reports, in possession of cannabis without a legal prescription.
Hit-and-run
- An unknown driver hit someone’s car while it was legally parked in the street and abandoned the scene Dec. 18. The incident took place on the 5500 block of South Oak Street.
DUI

- Melissa Rae Martinez, 36, who lives on Honeysuckle Rose Lane in Willowbrook, was charged with driving drunk and having liquor in her car with her Dec. 18 around 8:40 a.m. Martinez refused to submit to a breathalyzer test, was charged and ultimately was released with a court date.
- Rosa Gutierrez, 30, was stopped at Elm Street and Ogden Avenue Dec. 15 for driving under the influence. She was arrested around 6 p.m.
Fraud
- A Hinsdale resident living on the 300 block of Radcliffe Way reported their credit card information was stolen in November and someone charged $340.25 to the card. The incident, which reportedly took place Nov. 20, was reported Dec. 16.
- Someone living on the 500 block of East 3rd Street said someone cashed two fraudulent checks, each totaling $929.80, using his account information. He reported the case Dec. 15, though he said the transactions occurred in mid-November.
