Man Arrested for Robbing Hinsdale Gas Station Reappears in Court After He Tries It Again

Bond Tuesday was set $550,000 more than last time.

A man who was accused of robbing a Hinsdale gas station last week once again appeared in bond court Tuesday for strikingly similar allegations.

Milan Crnovich, 24, allegedly entered the Hinsdale Food Mart Dec. 12 wearing a blue ski mask and gave a note to the cashier demanding money in $5, $10 and $20 increments, DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin announced. Crnovich also reportedly told the cashier he was being robbed.

It’s alleged that Crnovich left on foot, empty handed, after the store clerk started to yell at him and called the police. Once on the scene, Hinsdale officers found Crnovich 50 to 75 yards away from the store and arrested him without struggle. They also found a ski mask and Crnovich’s note about 20 feet away.

Crnovich appeared in bond court Dec. 6 following allegations that he’d tried to rob a Mobile gas station three days before. He’d reportedly been armed at the time of that robbery and handed the station's cashier a note that had “gun” written on it, and the cashier said he gave Crnovich $180 in cash before Crnovich fled on foot.

Crnovich was caught the next day when he returned to the gas station and police caught him about a block away with a white ski mask and a silver airsoft pistol.

His bond was set at $200,000 with 10 percent to apply, which he posted the same day he appeared in court. He was released from custody after handing over the $20,000. Tuesday morning, Berlin’s office filed a petition to revoke bond on that previous case.

Tuesday in court, Judge Richard Russo charged Crnovich with one count of attempted robbery and set his bond at $750,000 with 10 percent to apply.

“Exactly one week ago, this very same defendant found himself in bond court facing armed robbery charged in a case that is strikingly similar to the allegations presented against him today,” Berlin said in a release. “What I find particularly disturbing in this case is the fact that Mr. Crnovich was out on bond when he allegedly attempted to rob the Hinsdale Food Mart. Thanks to the quick response and apprehension of Mr. Crnovich by the Hinsdale Police Department, my office will be able to mount a strong prosecution against this defendant.”

Crnovich is next slated to appear in court Dec. 27 in front of Judge John Kinsella.
