New DuPage County Associate Judge Appointed After Months of Deliberation

Brian W. Jacobs has been appointed as the next DuPage County Associate Judge after months of deliberation, the DuPage County Bar Association announced Tuesday.

The current Chief Circuit Judge, Kathryn Creswell, announced the news after a tabulation of secret ballots submitted by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts in Springfield and the Circuit Judges of the Eighteenth Judicial Court in DuPage County.

Former Associate Judge Karen Wilson was recently appointed to the position of Circuit Judge, leaving the vacancy that Jacobs will now fill.

July 14 of this year, Creswell announced there were two finalists for the Office of Associate Judge: Jacobs and Bryan S. Chapman. Both were selected as finalists and certified to the Illinois Supreme Court, according to the Bar Association.

Jacobs has a decade of experience on Chapman, who received his admittance to practice law in Illinois in 2006 after graduating from the University of Missouri. Jacobs studied at the Boston College of Law and was admitted to practice law in Illinois in 1996.

Jacobs is currently a Deputy Chief for the DuPage County Public Defender’s Office. He was appointed to the position 15 years ago, in 2001. Before that, Jacobs worked as an associate with O’Hagen, Smith and Amundsen for a year and was an Assistant Public Defender for the Kane County Public Defender’s Office.

He is a member of the DuPage County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers and the DuPage County Criminal Defense Lawyers.
