New Outbreak Reported In Hinsdale: State

HINSDALE, IL — ManorCare of Hinsdale nursing home has experienced 53 cases and four deaths in its latest coronavirus outbreak, according to the state.

The outbreak is listed as "open" on the state Department of Public Health's website, meaning cases have been reported in the last 28 days.

The recent outbreak is smaller so far than the previous one at ManorCare, 600 Ogden Ave. Last spring, the nursing home suffered 162 cases and 37 deaths because of the coronavirus, according to the department.

In those two outbreaks, the facility experienced a total of 41 deaths. That's a big majority of Hinsdale's 59 coronavirus deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

At Tuesday's Village Board meeting, Village President Tom Cauley noted the recent outbreak at ManorCare.

"That is somewhat surprising because I thought everybody at ManorCare had been inoculated. We'll have to look into that," Cauley said.

A spokeswoman with ProMedica, ManorCare's parent nonprofit organization, told Patch in an email that the last positive cases were an employee on Jan. 19 and a resident on Dec. 22. The state updates its website every Friday. As of last Friday, the last case was within the 28 days.

"The center has completed their vaccine clinics, we continue to test and monitor everyone in the center to manage any community spread," spokeswoman Julie Beckert said in the email. "With the vaccine, individuals can test positive, but in most cases are asymptomatic. "

According to the Medicare website, ManorCare is rated as average overall. It is rated as above average in staffing and below average in both health inspections and quality measures. The facility has 202 certified beds.
