On to the Next Election: Group Seeking School Board Candidates for District 86

District 86 High School students need you — Citizens to Help Fix 86 is currently accepting nominations for a slate of candidates to run in the District 86 School Board election on April 4, 2017. A striking concern we find ourselves faced with is the growing number of challenging facilities issues that have developed in our aging high school buildings. After a mulit-year Master Facilities review process led by the Administration and the Board of Eduaction that culminated in a $132 million capital improvements list of needs, a combined Hinsdale South and Central resident task force reviewed the priorities list and recommended that the Board present a $79 million referendum to the community in the November 2016 election. The BOE voted against allowing community members to cast their votes.

Fix 86 wants to hear from Hinsdale Central High School residents who have a strong desire to effect positive change for District 86. The ideal candidate(s) will:

  • Develop policy in support of the district’s primary mission: Maintaining an environment in which our Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South High School students can reach their full potential
  • Proactively address and present to the community a proposal to resolve current space, repair and ADA issues presented by the combined Hinsdale South and Central resident task force
  • Collaborate with fellow board members to foster a Board culture of balance, diversity of opinion, sound fiscal management, transparency and civility for D86 residents
  • Provide common-sense management and control of district matters
