Stand Against Salesmen, Possum Mercy: Police Blotter

Clarendon Hills police reports, April 25

THURSDAY, APRIL 25

Shady Visitor

An unknown person at 7:47 p.m. banged on the door of a home on the 500 block of Willowcreek Court. The person said they were going to change the locks on the home, according to a neighbor. The homeowner, who was away at the time of the incident, said she is in good financial standing for the home. Police will follow up with the neighbor for a description when he or she is available. An officer told the owner to call police right away if the person is seen again.

Salesmen Begone!

Police responded to two solicitor complaints related to the same company. The first was at 3:35 p.m. on the first block of Chestnut Avenue. The officer spoke with a 36-year-old man who said he was in the area talking to current customers about a future upgrade to the old telephones lines on their street. The officer told him not to approach houses with "No Solicitors" signs, and the man agreed.

The second complaint was taken at 6:17 p.m. from a resident on the 200 block of Powell Street. The resident said the company's salespeople were being overly aggressive with their pitch. An officer spoke with the 36-year-old man once again and also a woman with the company. They said they were following up with existing customers only to tell them about new product upgrades. The woman said she knew the person that called police was from the 200 block of Powell because the resident yelled at her to get off her property, according to a police report. The two were advised to revise their techniques.

Possum Mercy

An officer at 12:53 a.m. came upon a large, young possum that had been hit by a car in the area of 55th Street and Tennessee. The animal was still alive and the officer did not want it to get hit again if it had a chance of living, according to a police report. An officer and a bystander were able to slowly coax and move the possum off the roadway and onto grass so it could walk away if it ever could. The roadway was cleared.
