Support for researchers working to find a COVID-19 vaccine

COVID-19 vaccine necessary to get out of economic toll

I can’t remember a time in my life quite like the one we are experiencing now. A global pandemic, a presidential election, economic downturn, civic unrest – the list goes on. The truth of it is, I don’t think we’ll get out of the pandemic or economic toll until we have a vaccine for COVID-19.

Fortunately, America is home to the best biopharmaceutical scientists and researchers. Their progress is unprecedented – I know it usually takes much longer than just a year to develop a vaccine. All of the companies have been collaborating for the betterment of society, and we’re in good hands.

However, a recently signed executive order from the top of government, known as the most favored nation order, stands to threaten their progress, thereby threatening the health and safety of older folks like me. The order would impact my Medicare coverage, potentially creating longer wait times myself and the millions of other Americans who rely on this program to remain healthy.

For a multitude of reasons, the most favored nation executive order is a bad piece of policy. Not only would it impact Medicare patients in the middle of a pandemic, but it could also hinder the work of the American biopharmaceutical industry as they search for a vaccine for COVID-19. I strongly encourage our elected leaders to speak out in opposition to this executive order and instead, support science. As a voter, I’ll be looking for candidates who back science, research and policies that help Americans.
