Work progressing on coronavirus vaccine

Continued support needed for developers

I was thrilled to hear the news about Pfizer in announcing that its coronavirus vaccine shows it is more than 90% effective. There is still a long way to go before we all get the vaccine but this is a positive development.

My hope is that the politicians in Washington work together to support those working to find a safe and effective vaccine. Trying to implement government price setting policies will stymie needed investment in the new drug research and development process.

Our pharmaceutical companies are doing all they can to deliver this vaccine in a timely manner. So now is not the time to be talking about setting prices on drugs. We have come this far with a coronavirus vaccine because our drug companies are able to research and innovate. Adding government policies will take us in the opposite direction.

It is expected that the coronavirus vaccine will be free to all Americans. My hope is not only this vaccine but other drugs will continue to be accessible to patients who need it.
