1 Dead, State Trooper Injured In Crash On I-57 Near Riverdale
A 29-year-old Chicago woman was killed when the car she was driving lost control and was struck by a state police car.
RIVERDALE, IL — One of four women in a car involved in a crash with an Illinois state trooper was killed early Monday morning, state police said. The 50-year-old state trooper and two of the other women in the other car were also hospitalized in the wreck on Interstate 57 reported near Riverdale around 2:30 a.m.
State police said in a crash report a trooper was clearing the scene of a separate crash on I-57 near the Cal-Sag around 138th Street when a car in front of the state police squad car lost control. Police said the patrol unit struck the other car while both were headed northbound before both struck the left wall and were run off the road.
The driver of the other car was Sindi N. Miller, 29, of Chicago, who was pronounced dead at an area hospital shortly after the crash. A 46-year-old woman has been hospitalized with serious injuries and a 31-year-old woman has non-life threatening injuries. A 25-year-old woman in the car was not injured.

The trooper suffered minor injuries.
The section on the interstate north of Sibley Boulevard to the crash scene was closed for several hours after the crash, according to traffic reports shared on Twitter. Traffic backups had reached at least 159th Street.

The interstate re-opened in full at 9:43 a.m., police said.
