When the owner of the car attempted to drive off, two of the men began firing gunshots, striking multiple homes and cars, police said.

HOMEWOOD, IL — Carjackers opened fire after failing to steal a car from a Homewood resident in his own driveway, Homewood police said. Police said two of the three carjackers began shooting after the victim refused to give up his car and instead attempted to drive away.

Police said the three men got in a waiting vehicle and left, and that the victim was able to escape without any injuries. But multiple houses and cars were hit by bullets, according to police.

The attempted carjacking happened around 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 19100 block of Jonathan Lane, police said.
