All eight alcohol-related citations were for illegal transportation of alcohol, a spokesman for IDOT said.
The checkpoint, dubbed by IDOT as a "roadside safety check," also resulted in 11 driver's license offense citations, six occupant restraint offenses, five insurance violation citations and one registration violation citation. Several warnings for various offenses were also issued by Illinois State police officers during the check that ran from the late evening hours of July 3 to the early morning hours of July 4 at the Halsted Street toll plaza.
