Author Of Book About Haas Murals To Speak On Tuesday Zoom Event
Kris Condon, who wrote "Richard Haas Murals in Homewood," will be the guest at the event sponsored by the Homewood Public Library.

HOMEWOOD, IL —Kris Condon, a member of the Homewood Historical Society's Board of Directors and author of the new book "Richard Haas Murals in Homewood," will talk about the history and background of the village's "museum without walls," during a Tuesday Zoom event.
The free event, which is sponsored by the Homewood Public Library, will begin at 7 p.m. Registration is required.
Homewood is the home to the largest collection of Richard Haas murals in the world. The New York-based artist is famous for his use of the trompe l’oeil (“fool the eye”) technique, which leads the observer to envision a scene that does not exist.

Haas first was commissioned to create murals for Homewood in the mid-1980s, the initial murals, all were connected by parking lots spanning from Harwood Avenue to Dixie Highway. Over the last 40 years, Haas and Chicago artist Thomas Melvin, who installed the murals, have created, installed and maintained a series of murals depicting themes of community, architecture, transportation and family.
In her talk, Condon will take attendees through a virtual walkthrough of Haas' Homewood murals, including behind-the-scenes stories that Haas and Melvin have shared about the creation of the murals.
