Candlelight Vigil to Kick Off Domestic Violence Awareness Month
The vigil will be held Monday, Oct. 3.

HOMEWOOD, IL — South Suburban Family Shelter will hold its annual Candlelight Vigil on Monday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. to kick off a month of activities in October as Domestic Violence Awareness month.
The event will be held at the Irwin Community Center Band Shell at 18120 Highland, in Homewood.
There will be victim testimonies, awareness exhibits on display, music, and a representative from the Cook County state’s attorney’s office Domestic Violence division as well.

“This event helps us bring awareness to the community of the devastating effects of domestic violence, and also empowers survivors to speak of their journey from victim to survivor," said Vicki Meilach, community outreach coordinator for South Suburban Family Shelter.
“We encourage community groups and individuals to attend the Vigil to learn more about DV and services available in our community. There will be resource material available and counselors in attendance to answer questions attendees may have.”
